Should have gotten a flu shot

So my younger brother got the flu from his work and I contracted it from him early this morning.  I kind of want to die.  Fever status as of 9:15 PM - 103.5 and 104.2.  This could also be attributed to being in a very warm bed with a heating pad, but still.  I had to miss out on a lunch with some old roommates today and also miss out on a party with high school friends.  Technically, I guess you could say I missed out on ultimate frisbee too.  Anyway, I went to the doctor and they gave me some meds.  Thank goodness I went to the doctor within the first 48 hours of my symptoms.  Hopefully I can feel better later tomorrow and can go to work on Wednesday.  There's no way I'm going tomorrow, mainly because I'm still highly contagious.  I think I'm going to get that flu shot next year.  A $10 shot seems pretty cheap compared to the $25 co-pay at the doctors office and $75 worth of medication.  Yes, next year I will get that shot.

The rest of Hawaii

So here's my blog post as promised . . . just a month late.  So after I quit my job in Hawaii, I rented a car for three days and had a blast around the island.  The Sunday night before I left, I went with a bunch of people from my branch and had a bonfire on the beach.  On Monday I rented a car in Honolulu and went to Sandy's and sat on the beach by myself and then drove to a lookout point for an amazing view.

I drove up to La'ie later that night.  The next morning I woke up at about 3 in the morning to drive to Kaneohe to climb Stairway to Heaven with my friend Tanner (airport boy).  It was so crazy, but worth it.  Here's a few of the sunrise pics I got from the top.

I was freezing at the top from getting soaked on the 4,000 steps up to the top.

The way down was so intense and my legs were shaking so bad.  The view was beautiful though.

I drove back to La'ie and dropped Tanner off for class and then drove to a beach park to wash off my muddy arms and legs.  I went and ate breakfast at the Hukilau Cafe and went to another beach out past Turtle Bay and watched the waves for a bit.  I went to the La'ie Temple open house again.  Then we drove out to Waimea to watch the sunset.  I didn't play in the water because the waves were too big.  Someday I'll go back and play in the ocean.  Here are some of the amazing sunset shots I got.

So after that long day I got some sleep and woke up for another long day.  My roommate and I drove to Kaneohe to go to Valley of the Temples.  Even though it was a rainy day, it was still beautiful.  Guess that's Hawaii for you though.  After that, we drove on the H-3 back to other side of the island to head to the Dole plantation.  Last, we headed up to get some Hawaiian ice up on North Shore.  I took the car back and they gave me a ride back to my house.

So my flight out of Honolulu was supposed to leave around 8:00 in the morning.  I got up early and got packed up and ready to go.  I got to the airport with plenty of time, but as we were unloading my bags from the car, I realized that one of my bags had been left at the house.  I waited for my bag to get back to me at the airport, but it was too late for them to check me in for the flight.  After crying in the airport and then on the ride back to my house, I got some sanity and tried to figure out what to do next.  I ended up getting a flight for 10:30 that night to San Francisco and then arriving at 1 the following day in Salt Lake City.  Here's the bag that caused all the problems and ended up being shipped to me anyway.

Since getting back I feel like I have no direction in my life.  I thought I had the next 9 months of my life planned out, but now I have no idea what I want to do.  I have no motivation to even start the job hunt again.  I'm living back at home with my whole family (7 altogether plus 2 dogs) and I'm working for my step-dad out in Midvale three days a week.  Hopefully with the new year just around the corner I can get some direction with my life and figure out what I'm doing.  I know I'm supposed to be back here in Utah and not in Hawaii, but I'm just struggling with life.

Life

Yes I am alive.  I made it back to Utah and have been sick for a couple of days.  I'll blog again later this week detailing my final days in Hawaii and such.  I start work tomorrow for Trident Manufacturing (my step-dad's business) and we'll see how that goes.

The Game is Over

Well folks, I've started applying for jobs in Utah again. My internship here isn't quite what I expected it to be. I was prepared for working an office job and that is fine. What I wasn't prepared for was a small company run by people whose 3rd language is English. I wasn't expecting to see my coworker verbally abused on almost a daily basis. I wasn't prepared to be manipulated everyday at my workplace. I wasn't prepared for the way they run their business or the way they treat people in general. I wasn't prepared for the cultural differences and the difficulty in communicating and understanding. They haven't treated me badly yet, but the longer I stay here, especially after the other intern leaves at the end of December, the worse it will get. Yes, I'm not living with them, but I won't stand for someone treating me that way. My plan originally was to stick it out until I go home for a few days in December and then come back and possibly give my 45 days notice. That's right 45 days. I almost think itwould be better if I just didn't quit and didn't show up, because they will probably just ignore me for the 45 days.

It's so strange to think that I felt so calm about my decision to come to Hawaii. This is same feeling described by the other intern. I still feel good about my decision to come to Hawaii, but in regards to my job, I just feel stuck. I feel like I'm not moving ahead in life and not really bettering myself for a "real" job. I've made some friends out here and been able to do a few fun things so far. That part is good. This friday I get to go and usher
at the La'ie Temple open house for a few hours. I'm really hoping I can figure things out soon, because I know I supposed to be in Hawaii, or at least that was the case 7 weeks ago. At the very least, I get a break December 9-14th to really think things through. Enough with this depressing talk, here's some pictures of my most recent adventures:

Waimea Bay - no I did not try skimboarding because the waves were 6-12 feet high

Hiked this - Koko Head Crater

Saw this at the top

Saw some of this too

Went to this at the Polynesian Cultural Center
